Coach Bio

Meet Frieda Ah Sam,

Head Coach for U14 & U17 Girls at

Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Football Club.

Get to know more about Frieda in our Q&A that we recently did with her.

Frieda is one of our emerging talented coaches in the Junior club who, in her short coaching career has already accomplished so much. She has represented the Wanneroo Divaz, Western Force Super W alongside her Mother, Sera (another champion of the club) and works for Rugby WA as a Development Officer. In 2021 both teams that she coached played for the State Championships with the U14s winning the title and the U17s coming runners-up.

1. How Long have you played Rugby and how long have you been involved with Wanneroo?

Since 2018 - Age 15 - Wanneroo was my first club because my Mum, Sera, was playing for the Wanneroo Divaz. I started pre season with the Divaz and I was the youngest of all the ladies.

2. What is your preferred position?

I am training up for Number 8, but my current preferred position is Blindside Flanker (#6)

3. What is your favourite Rugby moment of all time?

I was able to make it into representing the Western Force Super W team alongside my Mum. It is one of the greatest achievements in my life, representing Western Australia with Mum.

4. Best Coaching moment from last season besides winning the state championship in U14’s and runners-up in U17?

Last year - U14s won their first two games in the start of the season. They all played good rugby and learnt very fast for only a short space of time.

The U17s had less numbers but didn't care - still played and enjoyed it and performed well all season.

5. Describe what you look for in players when Coaching them?

I admire players who put 110% effort in all training sessions and team acitvities. To be become a good player, you have to have discipline, Respect and Maturity. It comes in a package, so I look to develop that package in our players.

6. What are your goals for each of the Girls teams this year?

U14's – Moving the ball and on-field communication

U17s – Building conditioning, instilling that attitude of never giving up

7. Why should Players join Wanneroo Rugby?

Wanneroo Rugby is not just a Club... it's also a second home to a lot of players and the community. Wanneroo has a history that has brought players into the sport, growing the game and achieving dreams.

At Wanneroo, I have mentors that have taught me a lot in building my own character, developing life skills & teaching me life lessons such coping with challenges and obstacles that might be faced in reality. Wanneroo has a system where everyone is family and the community helps whenever things go wrong. When you join the Wanneroo Rugby family, players have access to the same role models that I have had.
